Download NthPlayer for BeagleBoard

You can now download an alpha release of NthPlayer for the Texas Instruments OMAP3-powered BeagleBoard. The BeagleBoard is an embedded development system available from DigiKey Electronics and supported by the BeagleBoard community.

NthPlayer works well enough in our testing on the BeagleBoard that we are releasing it to gather feedback from the BeagleBoard community. If you have a BeagleBoard and try NthPlayer on it, please help us to improve NthPlayer by posting your feedback to the NthPlayer Discussion Board.

This NthPlayer alpha release is meant for evaluation and feedback. It is not a finished product, is not for resale, and comes without any warranty. Please bear with us if you have difficulties.

Recommended BeagleBoard Supplies

Before downloading NthPlayer, please ensure you have the following supplies:

  • A Linux PC to copy the NthPlayer software image on to the SD card
  • A BeagleBoard with appropriate power supply
  • An IDC-10 to DB9-M serial cable for monitoring the BeagleBoard console
  • A 2G or greater SD card for storing the NthPlayer software
  • A powered USB 2.0 hub
  • A USB mini-a-male (not mini-b) to standard-USB-female cable to connect your USB hub to the BeagleBoard
  • A USB mouse and keyboard for controlling the UI
  • A USB Ethernet adapter
  • An ethernet cable to attach your USB ethernet adapter to your router/network
  • An HDMI-to-DVI or HDMi-to-HDMI cable to plug the BeagleBoard into a computer monitor or HDTV
  • A computer monitor or HDTV to view the output
  • Note: There are multiple sources for the above supplies. We recommend that you reference the following sites to find your supplies:

  • BeagleBoard.org
  • Beagle Board System Reference Manual
  • eLinux Wiki BeagleBoard Beginner's page
  • BeagleBoard FAQ
  • Installation

The download consists of a single tarred and gzipped filed containing installation instructions and the image to write to the SD card that you will insert in your BeagleBoard to boot NthPlayer. After downloading, run the following command from your desktop Linux machine:

    $ tar -xzvf nthcode.tar.gz
This will expand the files into a subdirectory containing a README file that will tell you how to install the image to the SD card that you can plug into the BeagleBoard to boot NthPlayer.
