We're experts at developing applications for today's Linux-powered devices, such as connected televsions, mobile phones, and converged multi-media devices. We like Linux for lots of reasons, but built a business around it because Linux brings a low-cost industrial-strength operating system and development infrastructure to consumer electronics.
A Modest Start
Beijing resident and American expatriate, Peter McDermott (bio), founded NthCode in 2005 to tap into the talent he saw in his Chinese co-workers while creating some of the world's first Linux-powered mobile phones. Peter enjoys running NthCode to this day and maintains a personal weblog, Beijing Analog to Digital where he discusses technology, business, and life in Beijing.
Growth, One Step at a Time
NthCode is a bootstrapped enterprise: we started as a consultancy and then moved into creating our own software products. Rather than seeking outside investment, we have financed our growth via operating cash flows from satisfied customers.

NthCode Beijing is a properly licensed Wholly Foreign-Owned Enterprise (WFOE) in Beijing, China with NthCode Limited Hong Kong as its mother company. We comply with all Hong Kong and mainland China business regulations, and we pay all employees full state-mandated benefits such as medical and social insurance, and housing fund.

The name NthCode is a combination of the word 'nth,' which means 'extreme' or 'utmost,' and the slang computer term 'code,' which is the inscrutable text that makes up computer programs.
We pronounce the name, 'en(t)th 'kOd.
To create the name, Peter scribbled a list of words that emoted the kind of software he loved to write, and then combined the words together until he found a name that sounded good, could be easily remembered, and wasn't already in use.
